The end of way

My Dear Friends.

Folk Yourself blog is coming to end.
The Rapidshare host has now a new platform of prices wich one is completely abusive.
The price will be changed in 500%. Nobody, as a single client (like me), would have conditions to pay this value.
My account will expire on 5-June-2014.
So, try to get the maximum quantity of albums before this date.
I don't know what RS will do with the files after that, probably they will be deleted.

Really a pity.

You have provided fantastic, passionate quality for quite some time. Thank you for your great effort!

That's dreadful news. Rapidshare have been slowly but surely burning off their followers for some time now by increasing their prices.
Perhaps you could use Mega instead (or maybe Nornar or Uploaded)?
Anyway, many thanks for the ride,
BoHag.

Have you considered a different datalocker than rapidshare?

Thanks for introducing us to such great music. There are a lot of alternative file hosts that you might want to consider. Zippyshare, filefactory, uploadto, mediafire all work nicely.

Thank you for all your hard work. You have introduced me to music I would never have come across otherwise. Have you tried Mediafire or Zippyshare. Both are reliable, fast and free.

I am sorry to read this. (And not just because I sent you my new work! ;) )

You have provided many with a much needed source of traditional -and sometimes a little less traditional- Folkmusic and I for one can't thank you enough for all your hard work.

Thanks again for so many wonderful recordings shared!

You turned me onto so much great music over the years. It's always sad to see such a great blog end like this but I wish you the best in all your future endeavors.

I know how you feel. When i was terminated i also didn't feel like re-posting 500 Albums. I think you should give another filesharer a go. I've been using Zippyshare for awhile now and it has worked very well and it is absolutely free.
Just downloaded yesterday from Mega for the first time and it was a great experiment which i would also recommend you.
If you are really all set to leave, i wish you the best and thank you for all that FolkYourself has shown me over the years.
Thank you very much and i hope the decision will be to stay.

Very very sad to hear this news. Over the years you've done a wonderful service to music so at least you can take that thought away. If another provider can do the job then maybe that's a way forward but if not then thanks for everything.

is bad news, it gives a look how excellent music blog that promotes stays in nothing.
I personally am in favor of continuing with new post and forget the past and only if someone calls and you can re-upload.
is a personal decision that only concerns the authors of the blog, but it leaves a hole in folk music blogs that are on the network.
receives a hug!

I would hate to see this amazing blog disappear due to the shortsighted greed of a filesharing service like Rapidshare. You've done an amazing job of introducing people to a lot of great & important music they might not otherwise have heard. Thank you & best of luck for whatever you decide to do next. Rest assured that you & "Folk Yourself" will both be sorely missed.

This is sad news. I hope you will consider another provider. But if you do not, you have my profound gratitude for all the work you've done and the music you have shared. You've done a masterful job on this blog, and you will be missed by me and many, many others.

Yes, it is a pity. I've listened to a lot of recordings thanks to this blog, and bought many by groups i would never have heard of. Thanks!

I agree with that. It's a pitty for all the music that will be lost but... A new Start, with new things, please!!!! Thanks, thanks, thanks for all!!!!!!!

Thank you, CrimsonKing: Your blog has been a truly wonderful resource. Like others, I hope you'll consider shifting to an alternative file host (even if you have to let go of the older posts, rather than re-uploading).

First - Thank you for the good music you share.
Second - There are many possibilities beyond Rapidshare: Mediafire, Mega, 4Shared, Uploaded e Ifolder.ru (for me the russian is the best). Checks them.
Cheers.

Very very sorry to hear this news and hope that some way can be found to workaround the problem. Folkyourself is one of the best and singular music blogs, especially in the folk space.

Thank you all for your incentive.
I'm testing MEGA service (in free mode).
Let's see :)

Your blog has been extremely useful to me in finding music to play on air and thus promote the artists and make them a little better known! Thank you for that alone, and I hope there may be some way to work around the Rapidshare situation.

Anonymous said...

Many thanks for all your hard work sharing your music.
Have you considered Zippyshare.com for your files?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your awesome work on this blog.

Why don't you try Mega? It is nice and user friendly :)

CrimsonKing said...

Mega?
It's exactly I'm doing.
Please, read my previous comment :)

Try to use mega.co.nz or gcloud instead! Ihave re-uploaded my albums three times after mediafire and hotfile. Now im using mega.co.nz.
Try them!

Thanks CK, what ever you decide to do. MEGA seems to work better than RS, which was painfully slow. Good music is a big influence on people's minds, I appreciate your blog!

Anonymous said...

Maybe it is selfish but i i'm hoping that you will find an alternative to Rapidshare.I don't want to lose such incredible source of music that is so hard to find these days.

Thank you for this great blog. Good luck to you!

Thank you guys for the blog, I despise all the measures that are being taken to prevent downloading. Freedom and free knowledge expansion on the internet comes partly to an end for now.

I used the blog since a long time and from the start it opened up a world to me. The blog certainly brought me to spend lots of cash in the folk scene.. (cd’s/festivals/concerts/merchandise/etc.) in turn a well earned payback for all the music provided.

Though my love goes out to many types of music, the value of folk music is in general much higher than electronic music of this age. Folk probably keeps culture and history in our ears. Governments should actually provide heritage funding of some kind to keep these blogs and initiatives alive. But instead they promote loud noise to damage peoples ears and brains :D cheers for that..

Anyway.. all will be fine, we will find a way to overcome. <3 gg wp guys

I agree totally with you TheFox03.
Thank you for the right word.
... and thanks for all friends for the words of incentive.
I'm trying to maintain this blog live using Mega Host option.
Let's see.

I was faced with the same issue, impossible pricing which made premium pointless. So I got an account with shareblue.eu and depositfiles. Both allowed me to remotely transfer my RS files to their services. So 300G took less than 2 hours. Getting the links from RS was the main issue...

I wanted to thank you so much for the Folk Yourself blog over the past several year. While the British folk was what initially attracted me I have through your blog comments and posting learned so much about the rich heritage of European folk music being performed right now! I only wish more of this wonderful music from Brittany, Spain , Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland...I could go on--was available here in the U.S. I am so saddened by the departure of your blog from the scene but understand all the trouble and expense for you. It was great while it lasted and I shall continue to tap my feet to so much of this wonderful music. Thanks again.

Frank and all others friends.
I'm trying to maintain this blog on.
Until now I renewed about 80% of all links using the Mega free service.
Seems it's going without problems.
