Symbio - Phoresy (Sweden 2016) @320

Symbio draws the listener in with their intoxicating combination of vast audio landscapes and earthy grooves, driven by a deliciously unexpected combination of hurdy-gurdy and accordion.
The duo creates a playful dialogue full of joyful energy, subtleties and virtuosity, where two becomes more than the sum of its parts. This is musical storytelling at its finest, told by heartfelt storytellers through soaring melodies, rich soundscapes, irresistible grooves and finely tuned musical communication.

Symbio was named Best New Artist of the Year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards 2016 and the duo is regarded as one of the most interesting new bands from the Swedish Folk & World music scene. With their strong stage presence, and a magical combination of hurdy-gurdy and accordion, the duo surprises their audience and takes them on a moving and dreamy musical journey.

The music of Symbio has been described as original compositions where folk, minimalistic art music and electronic dance music meets and creates a cinematic experience for the listener. During concerts they perform with both seriousness and joy, telling personal and vivid stories about the music. Through a playful, energetic and close interaction Symbio creates new music where two becomes more.

The duo was founded in 2011 and was awarded with the ”Scholarship for young music ensembles” from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2016. Since the release of their debut album ”Phoresy” (2016) they have been touring extensively in Sweden and Europe. Their second album ”Rising” was released in September 2018.

”- Symbio is a project that is very close to our hearts and we are very passionate about the music we make together. We feel that we have found music that speaks to our hearts and we want to share this music with the world, hoping that it will touch other people ́s hearts.”

Information from a concert performed (when???) with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra:

THALWEG:
Hocine Boukella: guitar and voice
Clément Janinet: violin
Michel Sikiotakis: flute and saxophone
Khiliff Miziallaoua: guitar
Eric Rakotoarivony: bass
Hervé Le Bouché: drums
Amar Chaoui: percussion

In its relatively short career, Thalweg has brought together, with impeccable
originality, the traditions of the sun and the desert with those of rain, fog and
leafy woods, the south Mediterranean with the landscapes of the North Atlantic. With this apparently antagonistic fusion of cultures, the members of Thalweg have brought together words, melodies, rhythms and sonorities of such diverse origins that would otherwise seem irreconcilable. An idea that combines Celtic melodies with subtle hybrids from jazz and other popular music, and is finally spiced with the joy and vitality of Berber rhythms.
